Ken Shamrock is undeniably one of the pioneering figures who successfully transitioned from the MMA realm to professional wrestling. His journey saw considerable success, particularly during his tenure in WWE. Recently, Shamrock shared his thoughts on Kurt Angle’s utilization of the ankle lock submission move.

Shamrock used a lot of his MMA moves in pro wrestling and that includes the ankle lock, a move that was eventually used by none other than WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle as well.

While speaking to Steve Fall for Ringside News, Ken Shamrock shared an amusing anecdote about the origins of the ankle lock as he was asked about his opinion on Kurt Angle using the ankle lock.

“It was funny because everybody was hitting me up saying, ‘Dude, he stole your move,’ and I just kind of laughed. I was like, ‘What are you talking about?’ They said, ‘He’s [Kurt Angle] using your ankle lock,’ and I was like, ‘It’s not mine. I don’t own it.'”

Shamrock explained that he had learned the ankle lock during his time in the world of fighting and later introduced it to wrestling. He emphasized that he didn’t claim ownership over the move.

“Somebody taught me that ankle lock when I was in the world of fighting. I brought it into wrestling. I brought a lot of things into wrestling. It’s great to see all those things being used and the opportunity for these guys to use it in an entertainment aspect.”

Ken Shamrock elaborated on the nature of wrestling moves, highlighting that many techniques, like the power bomb and the superplex, are often adopted by different wrestlers over time.

“When you look at the power bombs and the superplex and all these different things that people do, and somebody else picks it up and uses it, these things shouldn’t be seen as someone taking something from somebody. I look at it as honoring somebody.”

As previously reported, Ken Shamrock likely signed a deal with WWE as the company dropped new merchandise for him last year. Regardless, Shamrock clearly isn’t bothered by Kurt Angle using the ankle lock and that is all that matters.
