Keri Russell has a new co-star in The Diplomat Season 2 and was a little “nervous” about her joining the cast.

Allison Janney was cast in the new season of the Netflix drama, which made Russell a little nervous because she is a fan of her.

“Just because she’s awesome and so good,” Russell told People about her co-star. “I love her. There’s a scene she does in Primary Colors – that movie is so good – where she does this physical comedy fall up the stairs. So I think I was a little nervous, but she’s everything you want her to be. She’s gracious and funny and smart and cool.”

The Diplomat is a political thriller series starring Russell as Kate Wyler, a newly appointed US ambassador to the UK who helps defuse international crises while managing her deteriorating marriage. Season 2 introduces a new adversary to Kate, Vice President Grace Penn, played by Janney.

From Debora Cahn, creator, showrunner, and executive producer, The Diplomat stars Ali Ahn, Rory Kinnear, and Ato Essandoh and is executive produced by Janice Williams, Alex Graves, and Keri Russell.

The Diplomat reunites Janney with Cahn, a writer on The West Wing.

Ahead of the premiere of The Diplomat Season 2, Janney took to social media to express her excitement about being part of this series.

“I am so excited to announce that I am part of season two of The Diplomat, which comes out October 31st on Netflix!!” Janney wrote in a Facebook post sharing a trailer for the new season. “If you haven’t already, go watch season one!! #KeriRussel and @rufus_sewell are fantastic, as is the entire cast! And brilliant writing by #DeboraCahn.”
