Following the news of WWE’s decision to remove Kevin Patrick from the SmackDown commentary team, some backstage details have emerged shedding light on the situation.
Kevin Patrick joined WWE in March 2021, initially working as a backstage interviewer. However, from October 2022, he took on the role of lead announcer for both Raw and SmackDown.
According to a report from PWInsider, WWE executives made the decision to remove Kevin Patrick from the SmackDown commentary team on the night of January 22. This decision appeared to be somewhat last-minute, as Patrick was originally scheduled to travel to SmackDown that Friday.
While Kevin Patrick is said to be personally liked within WWE, there was a prevailing belief among executives that he may not have been the ideal fit for the role.
As of now, it remains uncertain whether WWE will find another role for Kevin Patrick, whose real name is Kevin Egan, within the company or if this marks the end of his tenure with WWE. Kevin Patrick has yet to comment on this development.
Furthermore, it is not clear who will replace Kevin Patrick on the SmackDown commentary team or what the future composition of the team will be. Earlier reports had suggested that WWE management was interested in keeping the current Raw commentary team of Michael Cole and Wade Barrett together due to their established chemistry.
Ringside News will provide further updates as more information becomes available regarding this situation.
