They may not be “thick as thieves,” but they’re doing just fine.
Kim Basinger provided rare insight into where things stand between her and ex-husband Alec Baldwin these days — 23 years after their divorce.
“Alec and I have a great relationship. I have great respect for where he is today, and his family,” the “Never Say Never” actress told Variety in a new interview published Thursday.
She noted that, although they “don’t spend Christmases and holidays or see each other very much,” they still chat on the phone.

Basinger, 71, also alluded to Alec’s recent involuntary manslaughter trial after a fatal accident on the set of “Rust,” noting that “he’s been through a lot lately.” The case was ultimately thrown out.
“Hilaria [Baldwin] seems to have a great handle on that,” she clarified, adding, “So more power to her.”
While Alec shares Ireland with Basinger, he also has kids with Hilaria: Carmen Gabriela, 11, Rafael Thomas, 9, Leonardo Ángel Charles, 8, Romeo Alejandro David, 6, Eduardo “Edu” Pao Lucas, 4, María Lucía “Marilu” Victoria, 4, and Ilaria Catalina Irena, 2.

“The Marrying Man” co-stars said “I do” in 1993 after meeting on the set of the 1991 movie. However, by 2002, the two had called it quits in a divorce that turned bitter as they battled for custody of Ireland.
In his 2008 book, “A Promise to Ourselves: A Journey Through Fatherhood and Divorce,“ Alec detailed their seven-year battle, where the former model allegedly spent more than $15 million to deny him parental access.
During a “Red Table Talk” episode in 2022, the “L.A. Confidential” actress revealed they now get along —though she called him a “challenge.”
“We’ve had our challenges,” she said, regarding Ireland’s mental health struggles and past substance abuse. “I don’t think Alec was emotionally or mentally available for that kind of talk. Alec, you know, operates in a very different way in his life.”
Basinger previously called Alec a “challenge” while their daughter battled substance abuse and mental health issues. Ron Davis Hilaria has previously expressed her love for Basinger. GC ImagesAs for Hilaria, whom Alec married in 2012, she and Basinger have always gotten along.
In a candid Instagram post in 2019, the yoga instructor talked about their blended family and her relationship with Basinger.
“I love my stepdaughter [Ireland] as much as I love my biological children and I become a mommy lioness when I see comments that insinuate otherwise,” she wrote alongside a photo of her looking up to Ireland.
“Having a stepchild is a delicate matter. Especially one who is grown. I think my relationship with her has been so successful because I never tried to step in as her mommy. [Ireland] has a good mother, who I have tremendous respect for…and I put myself in Kim’s shoes: if my children ever had a stepmother, I’d want her to let me be number one.”
