Just a while ago, Jurgen Klopp dropped a huge bombshell confirming that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season after almost nine years at the club.
Having taken over the reins at Anfield back in 2015, the German tactician ushered in an era of new success at the Merseyside outfit, winning the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League, among other titles.
However, he has now decided that the time is right for him to move on and announced that he will step down from the Liverpool job once the season is over.
Klopp a dream target for Barcelona president Joan Laporta
Amidst this, SPORT is reporting that Jurgen Klopp has always been a ‘dream’ appointment for Barcelona president Joan Laporta.
As per the report, Klopp is a coach that Laporta has always liked very much and who, during his campaign for the presidency of the Blaugrana club, always mentioned the German’s name as a dream.
Laporta has always admired coaches of German origin, considering that they have adapted well to modern football and, apart from achieving success, in many cases they have been able to relaunch projects by controlling the dressing rooms well.
Klopp was a dream for Laporta, but his arrival was not seriously considered as he was under contract with Liverpool. The German had never considered leaving England in the past, but now his exit in the summer is confirmed.
Could Barcelona make a move?
Barcelona are going through a complicated sporting moment and the club have closed ranks with Xavi Hernandez this season. He is Laporta’s bet and was signed to try to revive the club during a major economic crisis.
Laporta still trusts Xavi, but a decision on his future will be made in the summer depending on whether the objectives of the campaign are met or not.
The unexpected announcement of Klopp’s departure from Liverpool opens up a new option for the future, but Barça have not made any moves or anything of the sort. He is just a coach they like, just like Bologna’s Thiago Motta, who is also admired by Laporta.
But there is a strong possibility that Klopp might opt to take a sabbatical as well.
