LA Knight earned a shot at the gold on WWE SmackDown.

Knight was scheduled to challenge Shinsuke Nakamura for the WWE United States Championship on the February 28th episode of WWE SmackDown. However, ahead of the show, Nick Aldis announced that Knight would instead compete in a Number One Contender’s Tournament on Friday, and the winner would earn a title shot.

First, Jacob Fatu defeated Andrade. Fatu took Solo Sikoa’s place, as Solo gave his spot in the match to his stablemate. Later in the show, former champion LA Knight scored the win against Santos Escobar with a mid-air BFT.

In the final match in the opening round, Braun Strowman faced Carmelo Hayes. Tama Tonga distracted the referee, and Solo Sikoa hit Strowman with a chair. Strowman fought the duo off. Hayes capitalized and did the Eddie Guerrero spot, making it look like Strowman hit him with a chair. The referee called for the bell, and Hayes was announced as the winner via disqualification.

Hayes, Knight, and Fatu then clashed in the tournament finals. In the end, Faut hit Hayes with his signature moonsault. Knight then pulled Fatu out of the ring and pinned Hayes to clinch the win. As a result, he will challenge Nakamura for the title.

There is currently no word on when the title match will take place.
