LA Knight was worried that he’d lose the crowd support after CM Punk and Randy Orton made their return to the WWE.
The Megastar was arguably the most popular man in wrestling in Autumn 2023. He had faced Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship at Crown Jewel just weeks earlier. While he lost that match, fan support was at an all-time high. LA Knight continued getting bigger pops than ever before.
However, Survivor Series 2023 threatened that. That was because two top babyfaces made their long-awaited WWE returns, as Randy Orton returned from injury while CM Punk re-signed with the company following his firing from AEW.
LA Knight worried that he’d fade away after two major returns
Speaking with Metro, LA Knight revealed his worries about that night. The former United States Champion admitted he was worried he’d “fade” into the background with these wrestlers back on the roster.
‘”Randy comes back, CM Punk comes back. And I’m like, Alright, well, now the perception is going to be, I got defeated, now these guys are here, so now I fade.” And I think a lot of people [had] kind of taken that stance for a moment,” LA Knight said.
However, he pointed out that he kept his momentum going past the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania. This led to LA Knight’s crowning moment of beating Logan Paul for the US title at Summerslam, with the full support of the WWE Universe behind him.
“Along came the Royal Rumble, and then beyond that, then came WrestleMania. And then from there, it was like, okay, now we’re getting to this fever pitch again.” He said.
“We get to SummerSlam and me and Logan Paul, and the place blew the roof off. So yeah, it was always going to be ebbs and flows and little peaks and valleys and stuff like that,” added Knight.
