La Liga president Javier Tebas became the latest personality to comment on Xavi Hernandez’s departure, which has taken everyone by surprise in the Barcelona camp.
In a recent interview (h/t Diario AS), Tebas shared his thoughts about Xavi’s sudden announcement. He also talked about Barcelona’s current economic situation and what lies in store ahead for the Catalans.
Javier Tebas on Xavi departure
“It happened so recently that I haven’t been able to think about it much. These are decisions that happen in clubs, some go and some come. And let’s see, there is a lot left until June 30, and who says he won’t stay at Barcelona? We have to wait,” Tebas said.
After the defeat to Villarreal this past weekend, Xavi announced that he would be leaving as head coach at the end of the season.
However, it appears Tebas thinks there is still a possibility that he may look to rescind his departure announcement, even though Barça are already working ’round the clock to find a replacement.
Tebas on Barcelona’s situation
Apart from his thoughts on Xavi, Tebas also reflected on Barcelona’s ongoing woes, as the Spaniard’s decision to quit stemmed from the club’s economic and sporting crises.

Barcelona is a team that always aspires to win everything, and it is frustrating for the coach not to achieve that,” Tebas said.
“We must not distract things from what usually happens when he does not succeed. It’s in sports,” he added.
Tebas went on to add that Barcelona are doing a good job when it comes to managing and recovering their finances.
“Barcelona is not the same as it was in previous seasons in the economic aspect when it comes to contracts. They will return to normal, they are doing a good job in this aspect,” he said.
Finally, Tebas was asked about Joan Laporta’s comment on La Liga’s referees, especially after Real Madrid’s win over Almeria earlier this month.
“This is not true, but everyone has the right to expression and we should not give importance to that,” Tebas said in response.
