Lagos task force clamps down on okada riders, seizes 82 motorcycles
Operatives of the Lagos State Taskforce have clamped down on commercial motorcycle riders in the state, leading to the seizure of 82 motorcycles.
This was disclosed in a statement and pictures shared on X.com by the Lagos State Government on Monday.
According to the statement, the operation was targeted at the illegal operation of commercial motorcycles in restricted areas of the state.
The statement partly read, “Enforcement operations: Lagos taskforce impounds 82 okada. The Lagos State Taskforce continues its rigorous enforcement against the illegal operation of commercial motorcycles (okada) in restricted areas of the state.
“During recent operations carried out at Berger, Mile 2 Oke, and Orile area, a total of 82 Okadas were impounded.”
The statement further revealed that the Chairman of the Lagos State taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, emphasised the agency’s stance on the illegal operation in the state and also urged residents to adhere strictly to the state’s laws.
“Passengers on okada are as guilty as the riders. If caught, they will face the full weight of the law alongside the riders,” he warned.
PUNCH similarly reported in August that the state taskforce impounded 106 motorcycles during enforcement operations in different areas of the state.
