EXCLUSIVE: Lainey Wilson will be among the witnesses who will testify at a Los Angeles field hearing on the use of artificial intelligence to replicate artists’ voices and likenesses.

The House Judiciary subcommittee hearing on Feb. 2 — Artificial Intelligence and Intellectual Property: Part II – Identity in the Age of AI — will delve into the misuse of AI technology. That’s been a hot topic among industry groups as well as one of the issues on the table in the recent SAG-AFTRA strike.

Wilson, a Grammy nominee this year and the 2023 CMA Entertainer of the Year and 2023 ACM Female Artist of the Year, will testify along with Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr.; Christopher Mohr, president of the Software and Information Industry Association; and Jennifer Rothman, professor of law at the University of Pennsylvania Law School.

Rep. Darrell Issa (D-CA) chair the Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet. The hearing will start at 9 a.m. PT at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Theatre 411. It will be open to the public and livestreamed on the committee’s YouTube page.

Congressional committees have held a number of hearings on the ramifications of AI. The Senate has been holding a series of listening sessions with the goal of legislation to set guardrails around the use of the technology.
