With the transfer window closing soon, Barcelona find themselves in a challenging situation, as they are actively seeking to strengthen the squad, particularly the left-wing position. However, to make new additions possible, they need to free up some wages.

This situation has led the club to consider selling one of their centre-backs, and sources close to the Catalan club have told Barça Universal that Andreas Christensen and Eric Garcia are the main candidates for departure.

Interestingly, it has recently come to light that club president Joan Laporta has prioritised these departures.

Christensen and Garcia are hot commodity

It has been suggested that Christensen’s future has been a hot topic recently. The Danish defender has not always been guaranteed a spot in the starting XI and this uncertainty has sparked rumours about his potential exit.

Despite his wish to stay at the club, Barcelona are open to negotiating his departure if the right offer comes along. The club has set a minimum price of €25 million for his transfer, and several teams, including Al-Ittihad and Newcastle United, are showing interest.

Garcia’s situation, on the other hand, is slightly different. The Spanish defender returned to Barcelona hoping to establish himself as a key player.

However, with strong competition from the likes of Ronald Araujo, Inigo Martinez, Pau Cubarsi and even the potential repositioning of Jules Kounde, Garcia has found playing opportunities limited.

Although Girona have expressed interest in signing him, it is unclear what will happen next. This time, though, Barcelona would prefer a permanent transfer rather than a loan deal and this would provide the club with some financial relief and reduce their wage bill.

In the coming days, Barcelona will need to make a crucial decision about which of these two defenders will leave the club.

This choice is important, as it could significantly impact the team’s defensive structure for the upcoming season.

With the clock ticking, all eyes are on Barcelona to see how they will navigate this transfer market challenge and shape their squad for the future.
