According to journalist Fernando Polo, via Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona president Joan Laporta is determined to fire Xavi next week.

However, some influential figures within the club are urging him to reconsider, as this decision could damage the club’s image and cost them €20 million.

It is to be noted Xavi made some comments in a press conference before the match against Almeria that displeased Laporta.

His words upset Laporta because, during a meeting at his home on April 24, Xavi had assured him that he could compete and fight for all titles with the team.

Last week, rumours about Laporta’s anger began circulating, leading to the suggestion that Xavi’s position was in jeopardy.

Joan Laporta is really angry

On Friday morning, it emerged that unless something changed, Xavi would not continue as coach.

After returning from Almería, several club officials met with Laporta at the offices, but Deco was absent.

Club sources indicated that despite Laporta’s anger, the logical step would be to talk with Xavi rather than abruptly fire him.

They suggested asking Xavi why he had changed his stance since their April meeting when he felt confident in his ability to compete with the team.

The financial aspect is involved

The financial aspect is significant for Barcelona, as firing Xavi and his staff would cost €20 million, and hiring a new coach would require a similar amount.

However, the cost might be lower if they choose Rafa Marquez.

There are key figures within the club who believe Xavi should be heard and asked if he truly has lost faith in the team.

Deco has always supported Xavi, even more so after confirming his contract until 2025. However, some members of the sports area have been more critical of Xavi, even after his confirmation.

At present, Everything hinges on an in-person meeting between the president, who is currently unwell, and the coach. This meeting is supposed to happen next week, and during it, Laporta is expected to tell Xavi that he no longer wants him on the team.

However, since both of them are very passionate and tend to speak their minds, it is uncertain whether this conversation will lead to them parting ways or if they might end up resolving their differences and reconciling.
