Al-Nassr defender Aymeric Laporte returned to the reasons which pushed him to leave Manchester City last summer. The Basque suggested that he was pushed out a little.

In an interview with the daily AS, the Spanish international confided: “I think it was because of the injuries I suffered when the club started recruiting other central defenders. When you make these recruitments, which are also very expensive, you cannot keep a place for a footballer who has caused you a lot of physical problems or injuries.
“The club saw it that way and preferred to bet on others,” noted Laporte with bitterness. Obviously, if I hadn’t had these physical problems, everything would have been different. Manchester City gave me victories, trophies. It’s something important for a footballer. There are certainly things I could have done much better and it’s a shame about the injuries, which happened too often and which affected my career.
Laporte is careful not to say that he regrets having joined the Gulf, but this is what his comments clearly suggest. “I’m where I am, and it didn’t go so bad. But yeah, it would have been nicer not to have had those injuries because things would have been different.”
