Bologna midfielder Lewis Ferguson has heaped praise on his team-mate Joshua Zirkzee ahead of the Dutch striker’s potential transfer to Manchester United.

Zirkzee has been closely linked with a move to either AC Milan or Manchester United, but it sounds like the Red Devils are leading the race for his signature this summer.

Zirkzee’s Bolonga team-mate, Lewis Ferguson, believes that his friend will succeed wherever he ends up.

“I’m good friends with Josh,” Ferguson told the Daily Mail. “He had an amazing season and it was a wee bit of a surprise he wasn’t in the original Dutch squad.

“He played up front for us. He was excellent, one of our best performers.

“Milan are apparently interested in signing him, Man Utd as well. He’ll be a good signing wherever he goes.”

Stretty News understands that Ferguson was a player of interest to United last summer, but the Scotland international suffered a bad injury that ended his season prematurely.

Milan have since pulled out of the race for Zirkzee, as confirmed by Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

It will come as a blow for Milan to miss out on a striker who was one of the standout players in Serie A this past season, also earning a place in the Netherlands’ Euro 2024 squad and making his international debut in the quarter-finals.

Moreover, former United coach Rene Meulensteen thinks Zirkzee should start ahead of Memphis Depay in the semi-finals against England.

Zirkzee helped Bologna qualify for the Champions League during his first season at the club, after joining from Bayern Munich a year ago. The 23-year-old forward could be on the move again in the coming weeks.
