In light of Darwin Nunez’s uncertain future, Liverpool manager Arne Slot is reportedly interested in signing Hoffenheim forward Maximilian Beier.
Sport Bild’s transfer section, via Sport Witness, claims that the Reds’ new manager is keen to recruit Beier this summer since Nunez’s future at Anfield is still up in the air after a poor season.
In October, following a spectacular start to the Bundesliga season with six goals in his first eight games, Beier’s contract was extended until 2027.
The 21-year-old’s contract with Hoffenheim reportedly has an enticing €32.5 million release clause, as per the report.
Beier is understood to be a target for Liverpool’s Premier League rivals Manchester United, Brentford, and Nottingham Forest.
Liverpool scouts are said to have been impressed by the 21-year-old this past season, noting his ability to drop deep into midfield and excel in progressive passing metrics.
Max Beier to Liverpool?
Similarities have been drawn between Beier and his predecessor Roberto Firmino, who moved from the Rhein-Neckar-Arena to Liverpool back in 2015.
But unlike Firmino, Beier is also renowned for his remarkable pace, and he is more adaptable than the famed Brazilian, having the ability to play through the centre or on either wing.
Arne Slot wants a new attacker at Liverpool
The Reds are looking at new attackers in the market who can finish off chances created by the team as well as link up with other players.
The poor form of Nunez last season cost the Reds a lot of points in crucial situations and now they are determined to address the issue in the transfer market.
Due to his strong performances this season, Beier was called up by head coach Julian Nagelsmann to the Germany team, where he made his debut in a recent international friendly against Ukraine.
A big move for the striker could come as soon as this summer with Premier League clubs interested in him.
