Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has been linked with a move away from the club during the summer transfer window.
The 32-year-old has entered the final year of his contract and naturally, there have been speculations surrounding his future at the club. Saudi Arabian clubs are reportedly keen on signing the defender this summer, but a report from Talk Sport claims that Liverpool are confident that he will stay at the club beyond this summer.
Meanwhile, a report from HITC claims that Liverpool are confident of agreeing on a new contract with the player.
Liverpool must hold onto their best players in order to compete at the highest level and keeping the 32-year-old defender at the club will be imperative. He has been outstanding since joining the club in 2018, and he has helped them win the UEFA Champions League and the Premier League title. The defender played a key role in Liverpool winning the Carabao Cup last season, scoring the winning goal of the game in the final against Chelsea.
The Dutch international is undoubtedly one of the best defenders in world football and he is the captain of the club. Losing him would weaken the squad severely, and Liverpool simply cannot afford that. It will be interesting to see if they can convince the player to sign a new contract with them in the coming weeks.
