Liverpool head into Sunday afternoon's Carabao Cup final as odds on favourites for victory owing to their 15-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.

Arne Slot is looking to win his first trophy as Liverpool manager at the first opportunity following his move from Feyenoord to take over from the outgoing Jurgen Klopp, whose final trophy with the Reds was the Carabao Cup 12 months ago.

The Merseyside will be looking to get back to winning ways on Sunday after their surprise exit from the Champions League on Tuesday night, losing out on penalties to PSG despite heading into their home second leg with a 1-0 advantage from last week.

Liverpool have lost only twice against Premier League opposition all season though, one back in September and the other in the first leg of their semi final in this competition against Tottenham, but went on to win the second 4-0, and are unbeaten in 25 league games.

Newcastle head into Sunday's final as heavy underdogs with the Magpies currently sixth in the Premier League table and with three defeats in their last five games in all competitions.

Eddie Howe's side will be looking to win the club's first piece of domestic silverware in 70 years on Sunday, at the same stage of the same competition they reached two years ago, when they came up short in a 2-0 defeat to Manchester United.

The Tyneside club will need to fix some of their recent form after just two wins in their last five, and will be having to deal without some key players, with Sven Botman and Lewis Hall ruled out through injury and star winger Anthony Gordon suspended after being sent off in defeat to Brighton a fortnight ago.

It's been 10 years since Newcastle last beat Liverpool in a competitive football match, going winless in their last 17 games against the Reds, who have won seven of their last eight games against the Magpies.

The last time the two sides met in a Wembley final was back in the 1974 FA Cup final, when a brace from Kevin Keegan and one from Steve Heighway gave Bill Shankly's Reds a comfortable 3-0 win.
