Louis Saha has welcomed the prospect of Bologna centre-forward Joshua Zirkzee signing for Manchester United.
The Reds have reached an agreement with the Serie A outfit to sign the 23-year-old and he is set to undergo a medical on Friday.
The Netherlands were knocked out of Euro 2024 at the hands of England last night, which means Zirkzee can push through his transfer to United.
Granted everything goes to plan, Zirkzee will become Ineos first signing at United.
It’s a signing that excites former United striker Saha, who told Gambling Zone (via Manchester Evening News): “Joshua Zirkzee has an unpredictability that Manchester United need. He is tall bit he is very, very sharp and I have really liked what I’ve seen. He would provide something different to Rasmus Hojlund who needs help in his game, he hasn’t impressed me yet.
“Zirkzee can also provide competition and a new option for United as a target man. With Hojlund, you sense that there is a bit of frustration but there have been glimpses of his ability and his flair inside the box, it looks like sometimes he is working too hard which leaves him out of breath and unable to get far enough away from defenders. You need a strike to have that coolness to stay fresh and find space in key moments like Wanye Rooney and Robin van Persie could, guys that couldn’t be controlled by defenders.”
Saha doesn’t sound convinced by Hojlund, but the 21-year-old had a decent first season at United. He didn’t get a lot of service but managed to score 16 goals in a side depleted by injuries.
The prospect of having two young centre-forwards with a high ceiling bodes well for the future. I miss the days when Sir Alex Ferguson would have 3-4 strikers in any given squad because you can never had a shortage of goals!
That is why I wouldn’t be against an additional striker addition if Zirkzee joins. We might have to wait another year for that, mind.
