With Barcelona searching for a replacement for Xavi Hernandez at the end of the season, the name of former manager and club legend Luis Enrique has been doing the rounds.
Indeed, earlier this week it was reported that the former Barcelona and Spain boss, currently in charge of PSG, is on a three-man shortlist to succeed Xavi at the Catalan club.
Enrique committed to PSG
The possibility of returning to Barcelona had been put forth to the PSG boss already once in the recent past, but he had distanced himself from the matter, saying:
“I have nothing to comment on this issue.”
And in a recent interview, the Spaniard reiterated his commitment to PSG, insisting that he sees himself at the club next season with a better and improved squad.
“It doesn’t cross my mind that the team will be weaker next season. I’m absolutely sure. If everything goes well, I think and I’m convinced that we’ll have a better team next season,” said Lucho at a press conference after being asked about Kylian Mbappe’s future.
In doing so, Enrique all but confirmed that he sees himself at PSG next season. The ex-Spain boss’ contract with Les Parisiens runs until the summer of 2025 and he is known to fulfil his contractual obligations.
As such, it would be safe to assume that a return to Barcelona in the summer is not on the cards for the manager who led the Catalans to a treble in the past.
Instead, the likes of Hansi Flick, Thomas Tuchel, and Roberto De Zerbi are the frontrunners for the job, although each of them comes with a shortcoming of their own.
