After Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba, another Barcelona legend, Luis Suarez, has signed for MLS club Inter Miami.
The Uruguayan striker who left the Blaugrana in 2020 has moved to the Florida-based outfit from Brazilian club Gremio, reuniting with his closest friends and former Barcelona teammates.
Having completed his first training session with Inter Miami today, Suarez attended a press conference during which he opened up on the reunion with his ex-Barça teammates.
“I didn’t think I was going to play with Leo again because I thought he was going to finish his career at Barcelona,” said Suarez.
The Uruguayan icon affirmed that the presence of Messi and his other former teammates was one of the reasons behind his move to Inter Miami, saying:
“It is another reason why I’m here. We are ambitious and we want to show the youngsters that age doesn’t matter, it’s the desire to win that matters.”
During the chat, Suarez also lamented on how all four of them wanted to retire at Barcelona but it was not to be.
“In 2018, the four of us dreamed of retiring there, although I was the first to leave and then they came after me,” the striker revealed.
Suarez then went on to confirm that all of them would be watching the Spanish Super Cup final tomorrow where Barcelona face Real Madrid.
“The feelings towards Barcelona will always be there. We’ll be watching the final for sure and we want to wish the club all the best”.
Commenting on the club’s situation under Xavi, he added: “The current situation shows that they are a good team, but perhaps they are not performing as well as expected in La Liga. The important thing is tomorrow so that we can win a title and gain confidence.”
