EXCLUSIVE: Rising Spanish-Colombian filmmaker Gala Del Sol has signed with M88 for representation.
Del Sol is coming off the Sundance premiere of Rains Over Babel, her genre-bending debut feature, which she wrote, directed, and produced. Reimagining Dante’s “Inferno” through a queer, tropical-punk lens, the film is set in the mythical City of Maya, a retrofuturistic version of Cali, Colombia, and centers around Babel, a legendary dive bar that serves as a purgatorial meeting point for lost souls. Presiding over this enigmatic establishment is La Flaca, the city’s Grim Reaper, who challenges patrons to gamble years of their lives in hopes of altering their destinies.
After launching at Sundance, Rains Over Babel went on to make its European premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam earlier this month.
Previously, Del Sol was a finalist for the Student Academy Awards with her short film Pasajeros en trance, which was her thesis from Chapman University. Additional credits include The Sandman (2018), Gamberger (2017) and Sekhem (2016).
Founded in 2020 by former WME partner Phillip Sun and Macro founder and CEO Charles D. King, M88 reps storytellers, actors, writers and multi-hyphenates, with an emphasis on diverse talent. Other recent signings include filmmaker Jay Pendarvis Jr. and playwright David Henry. Amanda Lie and Justin Corporan-Browning joined the company as Talent Manager and Lit Manager, respectively, in December.
