Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has reportedly failed to establish solid bonds with his players since his arrival in November.
The Red Devils called upon the 39-year-old’s services in the hopes of steering the club back in the right direction following another poor start of the season under the tutelage of Erik ten Hag.
However, the results hardly improved with the Portuguese in charge, at least not in the Premier League where the club currently resides in a miserable 13th spot. A defeat to fellow strugglers Tottenham on Sunday would see them plummet to 14th place.
Moreover, Manchester Evening News correspondent Samuel Luckhurst adds that Amorim is also falling short in terms of management. The source reveals that Man United players have noticed that the manager only shares a relationship with two players, and their identities are quite predictable. We’re talking about the tactician’s two Portuguese compatriots Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot.
But it wasn’t surprising to see the 25-year-old wingback praising his boss with honeyed words in recent days.
“With this manager, I think we can win a Premier League. Realistically, we can win. But then it becomes the most difficult thing to hear as a fan: that it will take time,” raved Dalot.
Ruben Amorim only has amicable rapport with two Man United stars

Nevertheless, the rest of the squad might be a little less enthusiastic about the new boss. As Luckhurst notes, Ten Hag wasn’t the most charming character, but he had certainly had the support of seizable contingent, including those he had previously coached at Ajax (the likes of Lisandro Martinez, Antony and Matthijs de Ligt), as well as Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo who were promoted to the first team under his watch.
Moreover, Ruud van Nistelrooy, who served as interim coach for four matches, was deemed an ‘excellent’ communicator, making himself swiftly popular at Carrington. The same cannot be said about Amorim who has maintained a ‘professional’ approach that hasn’t appeased everyone in the squad.
