Manchester United officially fired Erik ten Hag this week, after a disastrous start to the season. An expensive choice. According to The Sunthe English club will have to pay compensation of 18 million euros to the Dutch technician.

In office since 2022, the former manager of Ajax Amsterdam had extended his contract until June 2026 only four months ago but his recent results, with only one victory in the last eight matches, hastened his departure.

This sum places Erik ten Hag in the top 10 of the largest severance payments for a coach, at the same level as that received by José Mourinho after his departure from Tottenham in 2021.

Van Nistelrooy appointed interim coach

To compensate for this departure, the Red Devils have entrusted the interim to Ruud van Nistelrooy, former assistant of Ten Hag, while the leaders are in talks with Sporting Lisbon to recruit Ruben Amorim as a new permanent coach.

The Batavian technician thus becomes the fifth coach to be sacked by Manchester United since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, testifying to the difficulties of the residents of Old Trafford in regaining their stability.
