After just one season at the club, Manchester United initially hinted that striker Rasmus Hojlund is getting a new shirt number with a cryptic post on X.
The club’s X account shared an update that said: ‘RH11’, featuring a strikethrough, suggesting Hojlund will be assigned a new number ahead of 2024/25.

It has now been announced that Hojlund will jump from squad number 11 to 9 following Anthony Martial’s departure earlier this summer.
The Danish forward was handed the number 11 shirt upon his arrival at Old Trafford from Atalanta. However, he is now set to receive the number 9 jersey.
Martial is not the greatest example to have worn the no.9 shirt and Hojlund would be best to take his inspiration from elsewhere. The French forward has yet to find a new club since becoming a free agent.
United’s number 9 shirt was previously worn by legends such as Sir Bobby Charlton, Andy Cole, Dimitar Berbatov and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
This could open up the number 11 shirt to new signing Joshua Zirkzee. He has previously worn numbers 9, 10 and 11 while playing for Dutch youth teams.
