Gary Neville has revealed how he told Manchester United to play 'This Is the One' as their walkout music at Old Trafford.

The former defender made 602 appearances for the Premier League giants and served as their captain for five years after Roy Keane's departure in 2005.

During that time, United won three Premier League titles, three League Cups and the Champions League in a glittering run of years.

There is no doubt Neville would have had a huge influence on the pitch, but it also seems he made an impact off it too.

Speaking on Stick to Football, he donned an adidas jacket with the United crest that pays a tribute to Manchester-born and legendary band The Stone Roses.

Lemons form part of the band's logo and they also appear on the badge, with 'This Is The One' written at the bottom.

When asked about it, Neville explained to Jamie Carragher, Keane and Ian Wright: "United walk out to 'This Is The One."

Carragher then queried about reports of him speaking to the club about the music they should play when the teams make their way onto the pitch at Old Trafford, and Neville said: "Yeah.

"Being captain I spoke to the club secretary. Before it was like a Rocky song or something [Fanfare For Rocky], do you [Keane] remember it?"

He added: "I just felt there was no connection to the song that we walked out to, 2005/06? It was the best thing I did as captain I think."

'This Is The One' has remained as the walkout music ever since, with the song being played at Old Trafford for nearly two decades.

The Stones Roses' lead singer is a massive fan and season ticket holder at United, with the tune very much a strong choice by Neville.
