Roy Keane named the two clubs that were so good it had him doubting his abilities as a footballer.

Keane won everything at Manchester United and came up against some of the all-time great sides - as well as being part of one who won the treble in 1999.

There were certain sides that gave him and United problems over the years and the former midfielder admitted playing two Spanish giants had him questioning himself.

Speaking on The Overlap podcast, he said: “There’s a few teams I’ve played against and generally it was either Real Madrid or Barcelona… no other team has made me doubt that I’m good enough.”

Gary Neville asked about Juventus, and Keane added: “No, I never had it with the Italian teams because that was a physical challenge.

“With the Spanish teams, and even the so-called lesser ones, they’d keep the ball. Particularly with Barcelona and Real, when they had the top players and were in the zone, you were like ‘all the best getting the ball back’.

“That night against Barcelona, I think I touched the ball four times and that was in the warm up. We just couldn’t get near them.

“It was four and we were delighted it was four.”

That 4-0 defeat against Barcelona came in the Champions League in 1994 where Hristo Stoichkov and Romario ran riot.

The Man United legend played against Barcelona and Real Madrid a combined eight times in his career with the Red Devils, but won just once.

That was a 4-3 victory in the Champions League quarter-final second leg against Madrid - that saw Real progress anyway.

Of the rest of those matches he drew four (three draws to Barcelona and one to Madrid) and lost three (two to Madrid and one to Barca).
