Getafe president Angel Torres has said that although he would like Mason Greenwood to continue for another season, the England attacker’s style of play is well suited to Barcelona more than Manchester United.

Greenwood is said to be on Barcelona’s agenda for quite a while and it has been reported before that the Blaugrana are expected to have some kind of fight for his acquisition.

Right now, Barcelona are in no condition to splash any kind of transfer fee for Greenwood and above all, the team from Catalonia does not really need a right-winger in the first place.

In any way, links between Greenwood and Barcelona have resurfaced over the last few days and Torres has stated that the on-loan Manchester United forward has a good market in Spain and Barcelona’s way will suit him.

“He is very comfortable and crazy about staying another year,” Torres said to Spanish radio station COPE (h/t Goal).

“It’s a matter that they [United] have to decide. There is new ownership. They have to decide. In Spain, he has a market. Barca’s way of playing would suit him well but it depends on Manchester United. If it’s true, he’ll tell me.”

Torres’ remarks followed developments at Man United’s Old Trafford earlier in the week, where their new minority stakeholder, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, hinted at the possibility of Greenwood returning to the club.

He stated that a definitive decision regarding Greenwood’s future would be made upon the expiration of his loan deal with Getafe.

Now, despite being under contract with Manchester United until 2025, Greenwood hasn’t seen competitive action for the club since January 2022. Whether he will be granted another opportunity under the INEOS leadership remains uncertain.

This is where links of his permanent move away from England are resurfacing. Presently, Greenwood is focused on his commitments at Getafe and their upcoming La Liga fixture against Barcelona.
