As reported earlier today, FC Barcelona have set their sights on River Plate’s latest prodigious youngster, Franco Mastantuono, who recently made history with the Argentine club.

Just 16 years old, the attacking midfielder became the youngest player to play for River Plate in the Superclasico against Boca Juniors.

Prior to that, the youngster had scored his first senior goal on his Copa Argentina debut for Martin Demichelis’ side against Excursionistas.

Mastantuono’s rapid explosion has seemingly caught the attention of Barcelona scouts, but it appears that they are not alone in the race.

Manchester United also interested

Indeed, as per ESPN Argentina, Manchester United are also interested in Franco Mastantuono, along with Barcelona.

Much like Barça, the Red Devils also have a rich history of nurturing and developing young talents, with Mastantuono’s compatriot, Alejandro Garnacho, being an example.

The Blaugrana have always been an attractive destination for young talents from South America. Vitor Roque arrived this season while Palmeiras wonderkid Estevao Willian has made it clear that he dreams of playing for Barça as well.

And, Mastantuono could be another young talent that makes his way to Catalonia in the future, although any such move is still some way away.

It has been suggested that the 16-year-old has a buyout clause worth $30 million in his contract with River Plate, which rises to $35 million in the last ten days of each transfer window. Furthermore, it runs until December 31, 2025.
