Alejandro Garnacho has not been named in the Argentina squad for the upcoming Olympics in Paris.

The Manchester United forward, who is currently participating for the national team at the Copa America, had been tipped to take part in the Olympics.

That would have disrupted Garnacho’s preparation for the 2024/25 campaign, but thankfully he doesn’t need to worry about that now after being left out of the Olympics squad.

There was a report last month that suggested United had blocked Garnacho from participating in the Olympics, which makes complete sense given how important is it for Erik ten Hag to have his best players fully prepared for the upcoming season.

Argentina U20 coach Javier Mascherano has named an 18-man squad and listed four standby players – none of which include Garnacho, as per Reuters.

While Garnacho has not played a key role for Argentina at the Copa America, he started in Argentina’s 2-0 win against Peru last week. It’s still important for the player to get some time off before the new season begins.

He made 50 appearances for United last season and started in 39 successive games, scoring 10 goals. The last thing we need is to burn Garnacho out.

Argentina take on Ecuador in the quarter-finals on Friday.
