Kobbie Mainoo is closing in on a new deal at Manchester United.

According to the Manchester Evening News, an agreement over a new deal is now close and Mainoo will receive a wage increase when he puts pen to paper.

All parties are believed to be relaxed about the situation, which has been the case since the beginning of the year. That is why they haven’t rushed to accelerate talks.

The report claims United had opened talks with Mainoo back in March after he quickly established himself as a first-team regular under Erik ten Hag.

After putting pen to paper in 2023, this means Mainoo is already set to be rewarded with improved terms.

Mainoo has enjoyed a meteoric rise over the past 12 months and the sky is the limit for the young midfielder.

The United midfielder pulled out of the recent England squad due to injury.

Ten Hag will hope Mainoo is available when United face Brentford in the Premier League next week.

There is already a growing list of injured players in the squad, including Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Mason Mount and Leny Yoro.

Mainoo is seen as a key part of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s long-term project.
