Erik ten Hag has said he will look after Marcus Rashford internally after the Manchester United striker missed the FA Cup match against Newport on Sunday.

The Dutch manager was left scathing when asked about Rashford’s absence from the match against League Two side Newport. United released a statement saying Rashford was ill and had remained in Manchester for training. The striker, who is United’s highest-paid player, missed Friday’s training session due to illness but it has since been revealed he had been out at a Belfast nightclub until the early hours of Friday morning.

A terrible season

“IHe declared himself ill in the last hours of yesterday, Ten Hag told BBC Sport. “It’s an internal problem. I’m taking care of it. We resolve this internally”. The controversy comes just three months after Rashford was spotted at a nightclub hours after Manchester United’s humiliating 3-0 defeat to Manchester City. The incident once again put the focus on the player’s focus, as the striker has had a dreadful season individually and for his club.
