And according to The Athletic, Berrada is set to link up with United to assume the vacant position.

Berrada has been a key figure behind the scenes at the Etihad, and it is believed he will begin work at United in the summer.

It has been said that he will take executive leadership roles in both the football and business side, while also having a seat on the board of directors.

In a joint decision by Ratcliffe and the Glazer family, Berrada was identified as the perfect candidate.

In a statement to The Athletic, Pep Guardiola's side confirmed that Berrada has left his role at the club.

They said: "Manchester City can confirm that Omar Berrada has resigned from his role as Chief Football Operations Officer at City Football Group.

"The club understands his decision to look for a new challenge and he leaves with our thanks and best wishes."

Berrada joined City in 2011 after spending nearly eight years at Barcelona as their head of sponsorship and senior media business development manager.

While at City, he was initially the commercial director for City Football Marketing, before promoted to his CFO role.

And he also worked closely alongside City's director of football Txiki Begiristain.

He also played a pivotal role in the club's signing of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund in 2022.

In Arnold's absence, Patrick Stewart has been acting at United's interim CEO.

Stewart, who became part of the Old Trafford family in 2006, is the club's most senior lawyer.

But he was never in line to be United's permanent CEO, with Berrada an undoubted major coup for Ratcliffe.
