Mark Lawrenson has been discussing Newcastle United.

The former Liverpool defender speaking ahead of the match at St James’ Park.

Newcastle United having played thirty eight matches in total (all competitions) so far this season.

Winning twenty three of them, with five draws and ten defeats.

The most recent game and victory, came at Wembley against Mark Lawrenson’s beloved Liverpool, United outclassing them and the scousers luck to lose by only a one goal margin.

Now set to face Brentford at home on Wednesday night..

Mark Lawrenson speaking ahead of Newcastle v Brentford:

“Brentford are not great on the road and spirits will be sky high at Newcastle.

“The Geordie nation will be backing them to the hilt so should be a good atmosphere under the lights.

“Prediction: Newcastle 2 Brentford 1.”

You often wonder with these former players who get paid to give their ‘expert’ opinion, just how much (or little!) research they do before giving us their measured verdict…

It has obviously registered with Mark Lawrenson what happened with Newcastle United in their last match!

However, how detailed has his research being on Brentford?

Well, if this fixture was in early January 2025, when saying ‘Brentford are not great on the road…’  Mark Lawrenson would be absolutely spot on. At that point, the Bees had played nine Premier League away matches and lost seven of them, winning none and drawing two.

From 2 January 2025, the next three months, this is the Brentford Premier League away form:

Southampton 0 Brentford 5

Palace 1 Brentford 2

West Ham 0 Brentford 1

Leicester 0 Brentford 4

Bournemouth 1 Brentford 2

Quite hilarious really, as Mark Lawrenson couldn’t have got it more wrong.

These past three months Brentford have the very best away form of any Premier League club!

Thomas Frank’s side with five wins out of five, scoring fourteen goals and conceding only two. They have actually totally flipped their stats, early in the season brilliant form at home and terrible away, that becoming terrible at home and five out of five away.

I still think Newcastle United will win tonight but not based on that brilliant Mark Lawrenson carefully researched expert analysis.
