The wait is finally over as Mason Greenwood officially becomes a Marseille player.

From early promise to controversy, the 22-year-old forward knew there was no way back at Manchester United, who had decided it would be best for the forward to continue his career elsewhere.

Greenwood impressed on loan at Getafe last season, scoring 8 goals in La Liga to attract interest from Marseille as well as Italian outfit Lazio.

UWS editor Andy Mitten was first to break the news that Greenwood’s permanent switch to Marseille had been complete.

Mason Greenwood has joined Olympique de Marseille on a permanent transfer.

Fee of up to €31.6m (£26.6m), plus sizeable share of any sell-on for MUFC.

Marseille receive a transfer fee up to €31.6m and the deal includes a sizeable share on any future sale of the player.

This will be seen as a plus for INEOS, who already appear to have improved United’s operations in the transfer market. The club tends to struggle to sell players and I reckon Richard Arnold and co wanted to avoid dealing with Greenwood after their infamous U-turn, which led to a strong backlash from supporters.

However, Greenwood arrived in Marseille last night and completed his medical this morning ahead of the official announcement.

The forward was greeted by Marseille fans chanting his name after arriving at the airport in Marseille, despite the city mayor airing his views against the transfer.

Marseille released the following video on X to announce Greenwood’s transfer.

United can now try take that fee and turn it into something this summer, with the squad needing more signings ahead of the new season.

The Reds are on the cusp of announcing their second major signing of the summer, with Leny Yoro set to join Joshua Zirkzee in the United squad.

It’s all very positive at Old Trafford.
