Matt Riddle forgot his lines, but at least Randy Orton thought it was a good promo.

Riddle recently did a virtual signing with Signed By Superstars, and the topic of his infamous botched promo with Asuka came up. Riddle and Asuka were set for a promo segment on a March 2021 episode of WWE RAW, and he ended it early because he forgot his lines.

As Riddle explained it during the signing, he didn’t know it was live TV and completely forgot the promo once it started.

“Well, let’s talk about that promo. Usually when they go live, they tell you. And sometimes you go through a couple of rehearsals beforehand. I had the scooter and they had just gave it to me, and they said, ‘We don’t want to see you. Go about 20 yards that way and roll down.’ So as I roll down, one I didn’t know it was live TV, and two, the promo they originally had was me talking about how I’d been to Japan before, which I hadn’t,” Riddle pointed out. “And how I’d go to underground robot fights. I was going to ask Asuka if scooters would be a big hit in Tokyo, Japan.

“Yeah, I forgot everything. I forgot everything the second I rolled up. ‘Hey Asuka, do you think scooters are… do you think a scooter…’ I forgot what I was saying. And then the people behind the camera are like [waving at him to come back],” Riddle said.

Matt Riddle pointed out that at least he didn’t swear or ask for his line.

“Now granted, at least I didn’t say, ‘What’s the line?’ or I said the F-word or something. I didn’t do that, I was just like, ‘I forgot what I was saying.’ Which, to be fair, happens all the time to me,” he added. “I see the guys behind the camera going [waving with both arms.] And I look and I roll by, and Asuka finishes it. I’m like, ‘Was that it?’ And I can’t talk because cameras are rolling. So I [mouth silently, ‘Was that it?’ And they go, ‘Yeah!’ [And I show my excitement and pump my fists]”

Riddle said that he and Randy Orton didn’t talk much when he first started working in WWE, but Orton came up to him and praised what happened.

“Randy goes up to me, he goes, ‘I don’t know if that shit was planned, but that was your best fuckin’ promo yet, kid!’ And then he walks away, I felt actually better. I was like, ‘Oh, if Randy Orton thought it was cool…’”
