Melissa Rivers opened up about a time that she was distant from her mom Joan Rivers. The 56-year-old host and producer was famously close to her mom. However, there was a time when they were estranged for about a year. She explained what happened and how they mended the divide. Keep reading to find out more… Speaking to People, Melissa explained that it was difficult for them after the death of her dad Edgar Rosenberg, who passed away by suicide in 1987. “Suicide is very complicated for the people who survive it,” she said. “It was very painful. It was very hard.” “It took therapy. It took time,” she recalled. “I went into a full crisis situation where I ended up in an abusive relationship, and when I called her for help, she came through. It took another major crisis for us to heal from the other crisis.” In a 1993 joint interview with the outlet, Joan said that Melissa “blamed” her for Edgar‘s death. “We tried to go on with our own lives, but we were both so broken that we couldn’t help each other,” she recalled at the time.
