Dreaded militant group, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta has flayed threats by a coalition of ex-agitators to attack oil installations in the region over the political crisis in Rivers State.
Recall that some ex-agitators under the aegis of Niger Delta Development Force had last week threatened to attack oil facilities in the region over what it termed a plot to seize financial allocations meant for local government areas in Rivers State through the courts.
But MEND in a statement by its spokesman, Jomo Gbomo, on Friday said it would support security operatives in safeguarding crude oil installations from any attack.
Gbomo also said MEND was against the violence that has rocked Rivers State due to the lingering feud between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike and his successor and estranged political godson, Siminalayi Fubara.
The statement reads partly, ‘’The threat to the economy of the country over a political dispute between two politicians who were allies is unfortunate, more so, both politicians are sons of the Niger Delta.
“We cannot in the present circumstance be tricked into carrying arms against the Nigerian state on behalf of any of them, not even for any price.
“This healthy collaboration from the various ethnic groups which produced an Ijaw son as governor was spearheaded by the FCT Minister.”
