Metro issues on Saturday for many of the Newcastle United fans heading to the Tottenham match.

An announcement (see below) from Nexus explaining the situation.

With major work on the Metro system, Newcastle United fans advised to allow plenty of time to get to the game.

Announcement from Metro operator Nexus:

‘Newcastle United fans are reminded that a Metro line closure is in place between Benton and North Shields this weekend.

That will affect travel to the Spurs game tomorrow, Saturday 13 April, which is a 12.30pm kick off time at St James’ Park.

Fans heading into the centre of Newcastle from North Tyneside are advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys.

A frequent replacement bus service, 900, is running between Four Lane Ends and North Shields, allowing people to catch Metro services from those two stops into town.

Nexus, the public body which runs Metro, is carrying out a major programme of overhead line renewal., as well as station works at Cullercoats and Whitley Bay and lineside estate works.

Stuart Clarke, Metro Infrastructure Director, said: “I apologise in advance for the inconvenience this will cause customers.

“Customers will be provided with frequent replacement bus services throughout this work and need to allow a bit of extra time to make their journey in the area where the line is closed.

“If you’re heading into Newcastle, where possible get the Metro from North Shields and head into town via Wallsend, or alight from the bus at Four Lane Ends and catch a Metro from there.”
