John Cena dated several of his female WWE colleagues over his career and this includes the iconic Mickie James. In fact, James has now explained why her on-screen relationship with Cena felt uncomfortable.

Mickie James, who is married to SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis, was romantically involved with Cena between 2007 and 2008. Despite their real-life romance, the storyline involving the couple on WWE TV didn’t develop as expected and was eventually dropped.

While speaking during a recent appearance on Ring The Belle, James revealed that she was uncertain about the direction of their on-screen angle. She mentioned that WWE decided to incorporate their real-life relationship into a storyline since they were “talking” at the time. However, James felt that she and Cena lacked chemistry on camera and to her, it felt uncomfortable.

“[Where was that supposed to go?] I don’t really know. I don’t really know where that was supposed to go or where it wasn’t supposed to go. But, I think, obviously, like we were talking or whatever at the time anyway so, I feel like it was one of those things. I mean, that was a well-known thing, right?

‘That was one of those things of like, ‘Hey, we’ll try this on air. I don’t know that we actually had any on-camera chemistry. You know, when I watched back, I go like, ‘Emm…’

[You don’t feel it?] I didn’t, yeah. It felt uncomfortable. It felt like it came off; I don’t know that it came off on camera as natural.”

In the meantime, Mickie James has also revealed her criteria for potential WWE return. Nevertheless, James and John Cena’s relationship on-screen will always be a noteworthy topic for many and that’s unlikely to ever change.
