Minority Votes Hold Key Role in Telangana Lok Sabha Elections

The upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Telangana are set to see minority votes playing a crucial role, with approximately 13% of the votes expected to be decisive in determining the outcomes in many constituencies.

During the assembly elections, minority votes largely supported the Congress party, even though the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) had urged them to back the Bhartiya Rashtriya Samithi (BRS). In fact, the results of 60 seats were influenced by minority votes.

In a bid to secure minority votes, the Congress party has announced an alliance with AIMIM. However, AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi recently stated that no such alliance exists, casting doubts on the partnership.

There appears to be a shift in the way minorities are leaning politically, especially after the Congress party’s failure to offer significant positions to Muslim leaders. Minority leader Mushtaq Mallik criticized Congress for only offering corporation chairman posts, deeming it disrespectful to the Muslim community.

Social media platforms are buzzing with similar sentiments, accusing the Congress party of ignoring Muslims in cabinet ministerial posts despite promises made during the Lok Sabha elections.

The appointment of Siasat editor Amer Ali Khan to an MLC post is mired in legal issues and remains unconfirmed.

With the Congress party heavily relying on AIMIM for Muslim votes, it’s notable that no Rajya Sabha seats have been offered to Muslims, nor have any MP candidates been announced till now.

The Bhartiya Rashtriya Samithi (BRS) stands a good chance of attracting Muslim votes in the upcoming elections, as highlighted by Harish Rao in a recent speech criticizes Congress over Ramzan gifts.

The direction of the 13% minority vote in Telangana remains uncertain, with time being the ultimate decider.
