Six days after seven-year-old Khalifa Saminu Saleh was reported missing, his lifeless body was discovered at a canal in the Kuruma community of the Bunkure Local Government Area of Kano State on Monday morning.
Khalifa’s distressing disappearance a week ago in Rano local government prompted an intensive and extensive search effort initiated by concerned authorities and residents. The incident was reported to the Rano Police Station in Kano.
According to a resident who preferred anonymity, Khalifa was last seen on his way to the mosque to perform Salatul Tarawih prayers, a routine he was committed to as the mosque was situated near his family’s home.
“I know the boy very well; he is about seven years old and lives with his parents. His father, Alhaji Saminu Saleh, is a young businessman in Rano town,” the source disclosed.
Khalifa’s father, Alhaji Saminu Saleh, who was obviously devastated, expressed shock over the sudden death of Khalifa.
He called for thorough investigations to determine and unravel the circumstances that led to his son’s disappearance and subsequent death.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna, who said he could not give details as he was on his way for an operation, confirmed the incident to our correspondent, stating however that it occurred in Mokoda community.
Haruna further said that the perpetrator was killed by community members, adding that investigation is ongoing into the matter.
“The incident occurred at Kanwa village in the Mokoda community. The perpetrator was killed by the members of the community and investigation is ongoing.”
