Ally McCoist has named Moises Caicedo as his transfer flop of the season, pipping two Manchester United stars to the unwanted title.

The central midfielder was one of the most-talked about players in the Premier League last summer with Chelsea and Liverpool locked in a battle to secure his services.

The Blues eventually got their man for a mammoth fee of £115million, but things haven't quite taken off at Stamford Bridge after failing to find his best form in 27 appearances for the club.

Manchester United spent big last summer as well by bringing in Andre Onana from Inter Milan for £47.2million, as well as Rasmus Hojlund in a deal worth up to £72million.

While both players have failed to cover themselves in glory, McCoist told talkSPORT Bet that the Red Devils duo deserve more time to adapt.

Responding to a suggestion that Onana is the flop of the season, McCoist said: "He’s nothing like the signing everybody thought he would be but I’m not giving him flop of the season so far.

“I think that’s just ever-so-slightly harsh..”

Discussing Caicedo, the Scottish football legend said: "I’ve got to say, I saw him a couple of times, particularly at Old Trafford him and Enzo Fernandez – both of them, to be honest with you – a quarter of a billion pounds...

“Caicedo would certainly get my vote before Onana, to be honest with you."

Asked if Rasmus Hojlund would be a consideration, McCoist added: "No chance. Caicedo would certainly get it, Onana would get it before Hojlund for me, no doubt about it.

“I know Hojlund hasn’t been scoring as regularly, particularly domestically. But there’s a willingness, there’s an eagerness, there’s a desire which a lot of the United fans can see and they’ll always cut players a lot more slack that are totally committed – and so they should.

“I get a bit of stick for giving Hojlund stick for missing chances, but that’s my job to give an honest opinion. But I don’t mind the fact that he keeps going and gets into the positions and scored a good goal against Spurs the other week.

“You’ve got to remember he’s young as well so there’s no way he would come into my thinking as a flop at this stage.”
