Frenkie de Jong’s future has been up in the air for a while now, with rumours claiming that the player could leave Barcelona this summer as the club tries to raise money through player sales.

After all, they have to plug holes elsewhere in the starting lineup, including signing a pivot and a left-winger, which are their priority.

De Jong cleared that he has no intention to leave Barça in the summer, speaking in the press conference ahead of the game against Napoli in the Champions League round of 16 first leg.

“What you say about my salary is very far from reality. Figures have been invented that are not true. I am really happy here. Barcelona was and is the club of my life, it was my dream to play here and it still is.

“Everything that is said in the media about my salary and my future are lies. It’s a lot of smoke,” he said.

Earlier today, Barcelona sporting director Deco made with de Jong’s agent Ali Dursan at a club for a very long meeting to show support to the player and to possibly reassure his entourage that they have to intention to sell him.

SPORT have reported, however, that several ‘top’ clubs are interested in de Jong for the summer.

Previous reports have claimed interest from PSG, who are reportedly ready to pay up €60 million for the Dutchman, with Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Manchester City also keeping tabs on his situation.

However, it seems de Jong’s future lies at Barcelona for now. The club will try to renegotiate his contract in an attempt to reduce their wage bill, but the player has not responded well to this idea in the past.
