An officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Kano State Command, sustained injuries during a violent confrontation with two suspects in Bebeji Local Government Area, Kano State.

The suspects, identified as Musa Usman, 25, and Buhari Ya’u Bashir, 24, were apprehended during a targeted operation at Rahama Roundabout on January 20, 2025.

The NDLEA’s Public Relations Officer in Kano, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday.

According to Maigatari, the operation led to the recovery of various quantities of illicit substances, including 1.1 kilograms of cannabis sativa, eight grams (38 tablets) of diazepam, and 59 grams (165 tablets) of Exol.

He revealed that the incident turned violent when Musa Usman, armed with a dagger, attempted to resist arrest, stabbing an officer in the process.

Reacting to the incident, the State Commander, Abubakar Idris Ahmad, condemned the attack and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to its mandate.

“Attacks on law enforcement officers in the line of duty will not deter us from carrying out our mission to rid society of the scourge of drug abuse and trafficking,” Ahmad stated.

He added that both suspects are currently in the custody of the NDLEA and will be charged with drug-related offences as well as assaulting a law enforcement officer.
