Actress Neetu Chandra has filed a public interest litigation in the Patna High Court, complaining against alleged vulgarity in singer Yo Yo Honey Singh’s latest chartbuster Maniac. Neetu feels that the song portrays overt sexualisation, with women shown as just sex objects.

The actor has also claimed that the song uses Bhojpuri language to “normalize vulgarity” and disregards the concept of women’s empowerment.

The petition names Hirdesh Singh, popularly known as Honey Singh, 41, along with other collaborators, including lyricist Leo Grewal and Bhojpuri singers Ragini Vishwakarma and Arjun Ajanabi.

Chandra, who has produced several critically acclaimed Bhojpuri and Maithili films, has requested the court to direct the respondents to modify the song’s lyrics.

According to news agency PTI, the PIL is expected to be heard in March. In 2023, the Punjab and Haryana High Court dismissed a petition against the rapper, declaring it “infructuous” and recommending the FIR against him for alleged “obscene acts and songs” be scrapped.
