Neil Warnock used one of his iconic quotes in a final message before his first Aberdeen match - but it wasn't enough to inspire them to a win at Rangers.

The Dons fell to a 2-1 defeat at Ibrox on Tuesday night, a result which sees them slip to ninth in the Scottish Premiership.

Aberdeen were outplayed throughout the contest as goals by Rabbi Matondo and Todd Cantwell either side of Bojan Mivoski's equaliser sealed a deserved three points for title-chasing Gers.

The match also saw Rangers man Dujon Sterling get sent off late on.

Warnock was in high spirits pre-match though as he urged his players to not be overawed by the occasion against the Scottish giants.

He told Sky Sports: "They've got to enjoy it, occasions like this... it's a fantastic stadium, we've got some great fans coming down and I think they've just got to enjoy it.

"I think most teams come here and like to shut up shop but I'd like us to have a go at times."

Warnock then used one of his most famous quotes used during his time in charge of Sheffield United.

He added: "Go and enjoy it... one of my favourite sayings is enjoy it by being disciplined, in't it?

"They have to be disciplined tonight, Rangers have got some very good players let's be fair."
