Paris Saint-Germain and Netherlands playmaker Xavi Simons has rejoined RB Leipzig on loan for the 2024/25 season.

The 21-year-old made such an impression in the Bundesliga during his first temporary spell with RB Leipzig in 2023/24, making 25 goal contributions and winning the German Super Cup.

PSV Eindhoven made the most out of the 2003-born playmaker during the 2022/23 season, where he scored 22 goals and provided 12 assists but Paris Saint-Germain triggered their €4m buyback option.

Simon’s performance at the Red Bull Arena led to widespread speculation that he was a target for other clubs including Bayern Munich and Manchester United.

However, transfer speculation concerning Simons is dead in the water for another year at least.

Simons, 21, has returned to Leipzig for a second loan spell. The deal has been confirmed and Fabrizio Romano claims there is no buy option clause included, as planned.

The former Barcelona youngster will get the chance to play Champions League football with Leipzig once again aiming to improve upon last season’s last-16 exit to eventual winners Real Madrid.

Should Leipzig avoid one of European football’s juggernauts, the Bundesliga side will be confident of building on their form in the Champions League after managing to convince striker Benjamin Sesko to remain at the club for another season.

Sesko is another player who featured on United’s list of potential targets this summer.
