Some interesting odds on Premier League top four (and other possibilities) for the 2024/25 season where Newcastle United are concerned.
With bookies taking stock after these midweek results, including that NUFC win over Wolves.
Gordon and Isak(x2) with the goals as United picked up yet another victory (and clean sheet).
That win coming in the twenty first PL round of matches.
The bookies and punters reacting to how things now stand in the Premier League table (see below), as well of course, how they are now seeing the underlying strengths of the various teams and squads.
Listed below are the general Premier League odds now (morning of 16 January 2025) available from the various bookies for the 2024/25 season (in brackets are what the odds were after the opening round of PL games):
Win the Premier League:
1/3 (13/2) Liverpool
7/2 (9/5) Arsenal
28/1 (11/8) Man City
50/1 (1,500/1) Forest
66/1 (40/1) Newcastle United
66/1 (40/1) Chelsea
1,000/1 (66/1) Aston Villa
1,000/1 (1,000/1) Bournemouth
2,000/1 (200/1) Brighton
2,000/1 (28/1) Man U
So Newcastle United now rated joint fifth most ‘likely’.
At the very top, Liverpool remain very strong favourites despite winning only three of their last seven Premier League matches, with Arsenal seen by the bookies as the only serious potential threat, after they scrambled a 2-1 win over Spurs.
This is how the Premier League table looks today (Thursday 16 January 2025):
Premier League relegation:
1/40 (1/1) Southampton
1/5 (1/2) Leicester
5/6 (10/11) Ipswich
7/4 (7/2) Wolves
11/4 (5/2) Everton
12/1 (12/1) Man City
40/1 (250/1) Man U
50/1 (10/1) Palace
66/1 (20/1) West Ham
80/1 (7/1) Brentford
250/1 (250/1) Tottenham
300/1 (40/1) Brighton
500/1 (3/1) Forest
500/1 (200/1) Villa
500/1 (11/2) Fulham
500/1 (7/1) Bournemouth
500/1 (40/1) Chelsea
500/1 (250/1) Newcastle United
4,000/1 (2,000/1) Arsenal
4,500/1 (2,000/1) Liverpool
Eddie Howe’s team now seen as joint third least likely to go down in the 2024/25 season.
If you are wondering about the Man City 12/1 odds of relegation, this is due to the possibility (probability?) of severe punishment from the 115 Premier League charges they face, which could include amongst other sanctions, points deduction or even relegation. Still waiting for the outcome of that case.
Finish Premier League top four:
1/200 (1/2) Liverpool
1/40 (1/9) Arsenal
4/6 (9/4) Chelsea
4/6 (1/7) Man City
6/5 (9/4) Newcastle United
11/4 (100/1) Forest
10/1 (7/2) Villa
20/1 (66/1) Bournemouth
33/1 (11/1) Brighton
80/1 (2/1) Man U
100/1 (66/1) Fulham
100/1 (9/4) Tottenham
300/1 (66/1) Brentford
This is where, like me, I guess you will be giving most focus.
Can Newcastle United bounce back into the Premier League top four and get Champions League football?
Well, the bookies now have NUFC fifth most likely after that this excellent run of results, six wins in a row in the Premier League. Newcastle United now just marginally behind both Chelsea and Man City in the eyes of the bookies, when it comes to most likely to finish Premier League top four, along with Liverpool and Arsenal.
It is now Bournemouth at home for Eddie Howe’s side and then rock bottom Southampton away.
