The 2024 renewal of the Hong Kong Soccer Sevens are taking place next month.
Newcastle United on Monday revealing details of their participation.
In the group stage of the Hong Kong Soccer Sevens, the Newcastle United Under-21s will face Leicester City, Tai Po and Singapore Cricket Club.
Newcastle United official announcement regarding the Hong Kong Soccer Sevens – 15 April 2024:
‘Newcastle United Under-21s will face Leicester City, Tai Po and Singapore Cricket Club in the group stages of the Hong Kong Football Club Standard Chartered Soccer Sevens in May.
The young Magpies will compete in Group D of the seven-a-side tournament – which the youngsters won in the Happy Valley in 2018 and 2019 – at the Hong Kong Football Club Stadium between Friday, 24th and Sunday, 26th May.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the competition and United, who have lifted the trophy three times, are set to take part along with Aston Villa, West Ham United, Brighton & Hove Albion, Fulham, Rangers and Leicester City.
The main tournament will involve 16 teams, comprising of four groups, and will be initially played on a league phase followed by a knockout phase.
The top two teams in each league will proceed to the quarter-finals of the Main Cup knockout competition whilst the third and fourth teams in each league will proceed to the quarter-finals of the Main Plate knockout competition.
The Main Shield knockout competition will be contested by the losing quarter-finalists in the Main Cup knockout competition and will only consist of a semi-final and a final.
