Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi
The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has urged Nigerians to familiarise themselves with the nation’s laws, emphasising that they are easily accessible to all.
In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday, Adejobi highlighted that Nigeria operates under two major criminal laws — the Criminal Code for the South and the Penal Code for the North — alongside other miscellaneous acts.
He wrote: “Know the law: Nigeria operates two major criminal laws, the criminal code, for the south, and the penal code for the north.
“There are other acts, the ones we refer to as miscellaneous acts. These laws (law books) are not restricted documents.
Encouraging citizens to take the initiative, he added, “Let’s get them, read, and be familiar with our laws as Nigeria is not a lawless country. Enjoy your weekend.”
Recall that human rights activist, Deji Adeyanju, had earlier accused Adejobi of using his position to clamp down on Nigerians.
He and his law firm petitioned the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and the European Union, asking them to impose a visa ban on the FPRO.
The petition cited multiple instances where Adejobi allegedly ordered the unlawful arrest and detention of individuals for expressing their opinions online.
According to the petition, the police spokesman has consistently defended police brutality and weaponised the law against dissenters.
